Course Overview

  • CPPS Certification is granted for the Certification Board for Professionals in Patient Safety.
  • Certification is granted after passing CPPS online exam.
  • Certification is valid for 3 years and recertification is required every 3 years.

 

Course duration:

8 sessions, Each session 4 hours, 1 session per week over the course of 2 months.

Course includes exam questions and model answers

 

At the end of the program, the trainee receives a certificate of achievement from IMC and a certificate from the Dubai Knowledge Authority KHDA

Course Outline

Session One: Safety Culture

  • Assessment of patient safety culture.
  • Identify work settings with positive safety culture and those in need of improvement.
  • Raising health workers awareness and provide learning opportunities for the healthcare team
  • Promoting a Culture of Safety.

Session Two: Leadership Role in Patient Safety

  • Align patient safety strategy with organizational mission, vision, values, and goals.
  • Integrate patient safety responsibilities into job descriptions, competencies, and performance evaluation tools.
  • Embed accountability into investigations and system improvement.

Session Three: Patient Safety Risks and Solutions

  • Risk Identification & Analysis.
  • Develop a mechanism to report identified hazards.
  • Perform Root Cause Analysis (RCA).

Session Four: Continue Patient Safety Risks and Solutions

  • Recognize the risks of workplace physical and psychological violence involving patients and staff.
  • Evaluate technology solutions to promote patient safety.
  • Monitor patient safety outcomes following the implementation of new or modified technology.
  • Evaluate risks associated with existing, modified, or new technology systems.

 

Session Five: Measuring and Improving Performance

  • Identify quantitative patient safety data sourcesfor internal and external reporting.
  • Collect, manage, and analyze patient safety data using statistical techniques (e.g., statistical process control).

Session Six: System Thinking & Design (Human Factors Engineering)

  • Apply system theory and systems thinking to improve processes.
  • Design human factors.

Session Seven: System Thinking & Design (Human Factors Engineering)

  • Apply principles of high reliability and resilience to system design.
  • Incorporate regulatory/accreditation requirementsin designing process improvement initiatives.
  • Identify and enhance factors that support human performance (e.g., pattern identification, anticipation of outcomes, critical thinking, teamwork).
